Welcome to Our Website!
Let me take this opportunity to welcome you to the Handsworth branch of The New Testament Church of God, 244 Lozells Road, Birmingham and extend to you warm Christian Greetings.
During the construction of our new Church Complex, we are worshipping at King Edward VI Handsworth School, Rose Hill Road, Handsworth, Birmingham, B21 9AR - click here for map. The School is also accessible via Hall Road (best for car parking) and please note that both roads are one-way. Download our July Bulletin
The focus of our worship is the glorification of Jesus Christ and striving to ensure that the service is relevant to your needs. You can also look forward to the exciting opportunity that your visit with us brings, meeting with, and becoming a part of a whole new group of people.
The Bible states how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together - Psalms 133 v 1. It also encourages us not to forsake the assembling of ourselves together. Hebrews 10 v 25.
The Church is placed here to engage you and the community with God. Whatever needs you have, myself and the pastoral teams will endeavour to help you. It is my hope that you will feel comfortable in this new environment, that the glory and blessings of our Lord will be yours as we worship together.
Bishop Dr Derek A. Webley MBE (Senior Pastor)
The Villa Cross Project
The Villa Cross Project is the name given to the plan dedicated to creating a purpose built community complex in the heart of Lozells. The New Testament Church of God will demolish its current building on the corner of Lozells Road and George Street and erect in its place a purpose built facility to serve the local and surrounding communities.
Purpose/Objectives - The new community complex will be used to accommodate a wide range of much needed community activities.
The Project aims to - Increase accessibility to community facilities, increase the capacity of the local economy, create training and employment opportunities.
The facilities within the complex are created to deliver Community led conferences; Achievement Awards Celebrations; Education/Training; Public Meetings; Cultural Exhibitions; Music Events; Children and Youth lead Activities; Learning Centre for all ages.
Background - The current building, from which Aston Villa Football Club originated, was built in 1850. It was purchased by the NTCG in 1962. They have developed a number of community services that are housed on the site. These include - A Registered (Award winning) Day Nursery purpose built to accommodate 48 children; A Supplementary School and Easter and Summer Play Schemes; A Senior Citizens Day Care Centre.
The congregation celebrated its 50th Anniversary in 2003 and with its dedicated volunteers continue to contribute to the success of the area and beyond. The current building is in a state of disrepair and is unable to meet the growing needs of its community. Whilst there is a lot of sentimental attachment to this historical building, a professional feasibility study revealed that the most economic and effective way forward is to demolish the existing building. Thankfully, the site has sufficient potential to accommodate a modern community complex, for which planning permission was granted in May 2004.
Project Costs - Based on professional advice and guidance the total project costs are estimated at £4.5 million.
Timescale - We are committed to completing the Villa Cross project in a period of 18 months. The project will commence Winter 2007 and be completed by Summer 2009.
